Behavior and Motivation Policies
At Peterson Elementary School, we believe:
- Everyone should be treated with dignity and respect.
- Kids come first!
- Expectations for student behavior in all school settings should be clear, consistent, equitable, and directly taught to students.
- School is important to student success in life.
- All students deserve unconditional acceptance and high expectations from the staff.
Behavioral Systems
Class DOJO - Students are rewarded for individual efforts, choices, and behavior. A weekly goal is given for students to strive for. Each week students start fresh and work towards a new goal. These behaviors and choices included: persistence, working hard, on-task, participating, team work, helping others. Students can also lose points for the following behaviors/choices: off-task, talking out of turn, disrespect, no homework, bullying behaviors. If behaviors continue, further consequences will be taken. Continue on this page to find out more about this innovative tool. At the end of the week, students who have received a 90% or above in positive reward points will recieved an "Earned-It" treat.
Clip Chart - For experience, I've found that most students benefit from a physical act of movement to solidify an accomplishment, or a poor choice. Thus, we will also be using a clip chart where students will be asked to raise or lower their clips based on choices. Each level of the clip chart is worths points. These points will be added to their dojo points at the end of each day.
Team Points - In my class, we work together to achieve greatness. We practice skills of talking to one another, working with one another, and learning from one another. Team points is another way students can work together to achieve a common goal. Points are rewarded for on-task behavior, smooth and efficient transitions, following directions, and helping one another.
Marble Jar- I've been using this fun tool since my very first class, five years ago. It's an oldie, but a goodie. Students work as a whole class to fill up a jar with marbles. Each day the class starts with 5 marbles. Through out the day, the class can earn more marbles, or lose marbles. The earned amount of marbles are placed into the jar on a daily basis. Students enjoy this visual reminder of what our class can achieve together. The class receives an afternoon of fun (games outside, movie and popcorn, constructive free time) for filling their jar.

For Parents |
ClassDojo is a new teacher tool I will be using to help build your student’s learning habits and boost classroom engagement.
ClassDojo allows me to track student behavior and learning skills throughout the day! At any point, parents can login to the Class Dojo website or app (with the code provided), and view student progress for the week. See the Parent Login button below for easy access to the webpage. I will also be using Dojo as a communication tool with the messenger component. Parent email is preferred, however, if parents do not currently have an email address, a cell phone number will also work.
One of the great features of ClassDojo is that it allows me to send you a “behavior and skills report” every Friday by email. My hope is that this will bring you and me closer together and help you better understand the progress of your student on a week to week basis.
